Ding Mao, a supermarket worker, accidentally boils the store’s shark alive. That same night, he finds a missing person notice for his father and hears a strange voice. Soon, unusual events begin to disturb his life. Driven by forces he cannot understand, Ding returns to his hometown, Shenyang, after 20 years. There, he meets a series of unusual people, and their stories gradually come together, blending history, memory, fantasy and reality.
Born in 1995, Zhong Kaifeng is a Chinese writer-director, whose creative work spans filmmaking, experimental music and fiction. His debut feature, Atlantic Rhapsody, won the Golden Goblet for Best Film and Best Cinematography at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival 2026. His works include the short films Swimming in the Whale (2022) and Chorus (2021), reflecting his interest in exploring different forms of artistic expression through cinema.
