Inspired by true events, based on Dexter Filkins' acclaimed New Yorker article, Atonement follows a former U.S. Marine who seeks forgiveness years after a split-second decision during the Iraq War devastates an Iraqi family. He begins an extraordinary journey to meet the survivors and face the consequences of his actions. Through his journey, the film explores deep human guilt, accountability and possibility of reconciliation, showing how the impacts of war continue to shape lives long after the fighting ends.
