In 1846, a Dutch-Afrikaans family and their British supporter cross the dangerous Kalahari Desert to claim a piece of land. During their journey, they encounter two mysterious spirits who make a deadly bet involving their lives. As hunger, thirst and exhaustion take their toll, the group accepts help from Atshumao, a mysterious Khoen man they meet in the desert. But trouble and tragedy follow them. With fear, mistrust and strange forces closing in, the travellers must fight to survive. As danger grows and their attackers draw nearer, they face a difficult question: how far will they go to stay alive?
Born in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Meekaaeel Adam is a filmmaker inspired by cinema since childhood. He cinematographed The Last Victims, Skaapboer and The Score. He directed Netflix’s Stories of a Generation with Pope Francis and works across Africa, the USA and UAE.
